Repeat customer not happy with design change.
I have been buying Smartwool products for many years. I love the merlino wool 250 base layers--I have worn out a couple but still own a dozen--I really live in them from fall through spring. My newest two I purchased was the crew neck style in Desert Orchid Heather and the zip neck style in Canyon Rose. The structural design has been changed with new raglan style shoulders--no more shoulder seams and full armholes. The result is the garment does not hold its shape. It becomes baggy and unflattering. I hope the older ones I have continue to wear as beautifully as they have because I won't be buying any more new ones. So sad to see a great product go down the "let's cut the production cost" road.

Not worth buying again
I was given one of these tops in 2012 and marveled at how warm/comfortable/perfectly amazing it was. That one was starting to lose its elbows, so I replaced it earlier this year. The new one has significantly longer sleeves and torso, which is strange. It pilled on the second wear and the fabric is scratchy and rough, like cheap wool. Nowhere near what this product once was, and not the quality I expect from Smartwool. Disappointing.

Not the same quality
I have this shirt in maroon and a gray/tan as well, both in a size M. The black one I just purchased has much longer sleeves, I'll have to get them altered, the shirt is wider and it stretches and gets bigger as you wear it. I was under the assumption the same shirts would have the same fit.

Not as good quality as the ones SmartWool used to make
I've owned SmartWool's crewneck 250 weight base layers for years; over the last 10 years or so, each iteration is less durable, less comfortable and less effective weight-wise than the previous. I ordered 4 of these shirts recently and the sizing has been supersized, the tailoring varies from shirt to shirt,, one shirt has an odd sleeve that is 1 inch longer than the other sleeve, the fabric is less comfortable and the shaping around the armpits is bunchy. I prefer the old crew neckline that had edging that was less thick/wide with minimal stitching. The baselayers I own from 10+ years ago are frayed but I prefer them for comfort and warmth over the ones that are newer. Change for the sake of change is not necessarily innovative or an improvement. I want a weighty 100% wool baselayer that is durable, comfortable, has a solid, thin edge neckline that is more straight with less scoop, and sleeves that don't bunch under the arms. These shirts are expensive and should have the attention to detail that makes them worth the price. Thank you for considering my comments.

Sizing is off from previous 250 Mid 250 Crews.
Smartwool must have found some new factories to make this top. The sizing is way off from previous Mid Crew tops. I have many Smartwool tops that all fit perfectly (15+). This one was quite a surprise - the arms and body are shorter and body is about 2" wider. Just a warning, there appears to be inconsistency in the fit of this top. If possible, go to a local store to buy.

I will not purchase Smartwool ever again
I have been a loyal Smartwool customer for many years. I have loved their socks and base layers.
I purchased a thermal merino 250 layer a few years ago on sale through REI. The material frayed at armpits after just a few cold water, gentle washings (no dryer).
I submitted a claim to Smartwool Customer Service and they denied my claim because I tried to sew the armpits back together in order to wear.
This customer service is inexcusable so I am no longer a Smartwool customer and want to let others know they don't stand behind their products.

No sure about buying from Smartwool again...
Tight fit. 5'3 165lbs ordered L and M. The medium was way to small and the L was tight too. Rather scratchy feel. I love the quality but trying to return an item is frustrating. It would be helpful to have instant in store credit or something that didn't take 3weeks... I still don't know if my item was lost in the mail or if I am just still Waiting for the refund. But then again it has only been 2wks...
I love like the thought of all this shirt does, but waiting to get money back for another order takes a long time. This was my first order from smart wool.

Warm and comfy. Relaxed yet fashionable.
I bought this shirt in a printed color while in Jackson Hole in October and were it on several 7-14 mile hikes. The temps were around 50 and this shirt was a perfect layer. It was all I needed to stay warm during my hikes. The material is comfortable and doesn't itch. I sized up for my hiking prints. I'm 5'8" and 165 lb. got a large to for more like a sweat shirt. In the solids I got a medium so I could layer under a vest without any bulkiness. Warm and comfy. I now have 4!!!!

Poor quality
The 250 top and bottom are very warm and do not itch- great for skiing on cold days. However, I am very disappointed with the quality of the top and bottom material. I have only had them for one season, and the top and bottoms already have many multiple tiny little holes in them. The material has thinned out a ton- I can't believe how many little holes have appeared on the top. I will be returning them to the guarantee department for replacement.

My second one is not as good as the first
Three years ago the version they made was so flattering to a woman's figure that everyone I know bought one. I replaced it this year and the magic is gone! So you may want to buy something cute & functional instead.
Need Merino Wool for upcoming trip. Hope it's not itchy!!
own one already and need a second
I like wool fabric as a base layer for hiking.
great brand
