The Smith Method was a new helmet to me and I picked it up with my own money after trying on various models at Evo. As someone who always rides with a cranium case, I bounced around between POC, Oakley, Bern, and Sandbox. I struggled to find something low profile, light, all day comfortable, and stylish. This method checks all the boxes.
Right out of the box, the fit is dialed. You feel the helmet sink over your head and feel secure right away. The ease of the size adjustments (click in/ click out) means you can rock a buff, ski mask, or just let the luscious locks breathe in the air while still feeling locked in.
As for comfort: it's super comfortable. Ear pads on or off, you wont feel pinching, pressing, or squeezing anywhere. The Mips system allows for the helmet to move naturally so it doesn't feel like you have a massive helmet attached to your noggin. To me, it feels no different than wearing a bucket hat. Ventilation is also great. Doesn't feel cold on chilly days and warm days the vents do their job excellently.
As for safety, Ive taken some slams with this and so far, so good. Steel, ice, powder, rocks, nothing phases it. Even though this is the most minimal helmet in terms of on head feel, I feel the most safe wearing it because of how locked in and sunk in your head feels.
As for pairing with goggles, This works excellently with smith products or sunnies. Loosen up the back harness a bit if you wanna go goggles under helmet.
Lastly, looks matter. Nobody wants to be Buzz Aldrin in the lift line rocking an astronaut helmet. The method simply isn't that. This is the best looking helmet on the market. Better than the Giro Ledge, Oakley Mod, or POC Fornix.
My only negative is that the chin strip cover has ripped off. This doesn't change performance at all.
Overall: I believe you would be hard pressed to find a better helmet for the money. Get you one: Mips or not. You won't regret it.
