Do not buy these shoes for anything other than causal wear.
These shoes were very comfortable and required virtually no break-in time. However, I bought them for backpacking use and after two 5 day backpacking trips (50 mile loop around Teton and a much short distance trip through cirque of the towers) the heel portion of the soles are completely blown out. I would mark total mileage around 150 miles and are completely unusable for backpacking.
I would highly recommend a different brand. This is my second recent pair of the "Hedgehog" line shoes (also have a trail running pair) and the quality has gone down significantly from when the line was first introduced.

These need work. Rather than producing a high-quality hiking shoe, these are cheaply manufactured, with strips of cloth rather than eyelets. They feel sloppy. I had to add heel-lock eyelets to adjust the fit, and they're better, but I would not buy again. Why not GoreTex? Why the switch to another waterproofing system when GoreTex is the standard? Again, I feel they're cutting costs and they need to focus on quality.

I've had three pairs of NF Hedgehog Fastpack GTX, the most recent has lasted 5 years. I continue to come back to NF for the quality and durability. The new Ultra 111 WP is a huge transition away from that. Feels cheap, thin, poor support, very thin insert, needs additional eyelets at top. I liked the design however after trying two different sizes and changing out the insert there was no way i could correct the poor fit. I don't think they would last very long compared to the HH FP GTX

I will never be buying from this company again
Hiked about 50 miles in these shoe's and a hard bump is forming on the side of the shoe where it meets the insole leaving them unwearable!!!!

The materials of these boots are really bad, the toe is made of paint with anything that loses this coloration and they already lose the taste to go out with them, in just two daily uses. In addition, the type of sole is very slippery, you can risk falling on any type of surface

TNF hasn't made a high quality shoe since the GTX105. Everything now is made out of cheap materials, with few eyelets and no heel-locks, not considering the hiker or trail runner. Go back to your roots, north face. You had it right, but now, not so much.

Right shoe has a manufacturing defect. The arch support area has extra rubber the grinds into foot.

Previously owned Hedgehog GTX, with goretex and vibram sole. I expected the Ultra 111 to be similar quality, but I was wrong. It doesn't breath, causing your socks to become wet with sweat. The sole started to squeak after one week.
