About the Salomon Women's X Ultra 4 MID GORE-TEX Hiking Boots
The Salomon Women's X Ultra 4 Mid GORE-TEX® Hiking Boots offers improved stability and all-terrain grip in a women-specific pair that will help you adventure further. These boots are made from a polyurethane-coated leather, that offers high foot protection, and features a new ADV-C Chassis that targets articulations on the outer foot to optimize stability without limiting your mobility, while the higher cut provides extra ankle support. Their Contagrip® MA outsole grabs the terrain, even when it's wet or slippery, giving you more control especially on descents. They are fully adapted to the morphology of your feet and made with softer materials, especially around the collar and heel, a lower-density chassis and bigger last, making them truly women-specific. Power through uphills and descents, so you can explore every angle of your freedom with the Salomon Women's X Ultra 4 Mid GORE-TEX® Hiking Boots!

Ratings & Reviews
I have never had to write a review for boots as Salomon are fantastic with their customer service. However, please please don?t bother buying these. First pair no longer waterproof after 9 months. Second pair haven?t even lasted 2 months!! This is abysmal. I can?t abide waste and now I have two pairs that look absolutely fine but my feet are soaking wet even if I just look at damp grass.
PROS:
- The traction was appropriate and didn't result in any trail slips on the rocks or gravel.
- The sole is firm enough to prevent excessive foot pain from hours of trekking on a rocky trail.
- I love the (blue) color far more than I thought I would.
- I ordered my regular Salomon size and wore them with my usual merino wool hiking socks. The boots felt true-to-size.
- The height of the boot prevented gravel from getting into my shoes. (That was a usual occurrence with my low hikers.)
CONS:
- The insoles are poorly padded. Compared to my low Salomon hikers, these are shockingly poorly padded. If I continue to use these boots, I'll definitely need to add a better insole.
- The padded collar of the ankle support is stiff. It's not the worst I've experienced, but I'll be feeling the pressure for a couple days. I didn't have them too tightly laced today, and I'm hoping this area breaks in at some point.
- While the boots fit well on level terrain and on the inclines, I had some toe-rubbing on the lateral edges (big and little toes) of the toe-box during the descents. This was surprising, but I think I've escaped any blisters.
If Salomon could make me a pair of hiking boots that combined the Vaya from the insoles up resting atop these soles and traction, I would be super stoked! I hope by eventually adding some aftermarket insoles, I can come close to that wish.
They've already torn, the laces are already frayed, they run too big, my feet are instantly hot, and overall just uncomfortable.
I was really hoping these were going to be great.
What I can?t live with however are the holes that started to appear after 8 months of owning them, these probably only had 4 months of use (I opt to use trainers in the warmer/drier summer and now a few months later the holes are getting bigger and I suspect it won?t be much longer until the begin to fall to pieces. The goretex is now also defunct with holes.
Regardless of whatever reply salomon decide to apply to this review they are not honouring the warranty on my particular pair, as although they are clearly faulty they were a replacement for another faulty pair of boots where the stitching came undone, and the combined duration for both pairs was over the 2 years so please be aware of this when buying any of their products with a warranty, apparently two wrongs do make a right as far as this company are concerned ... given these ones can?t even make it to 12 months, personally I?d recommend shopping around for something a little more hardwearing.
I've just come back from my first walk in them and my feet are really sore. I've got a blister on the end of one toe, another between two toes, and the soles of my feet/toes are really sore. I've never had this problem before with Salomon footwear. This was after just 3 miles! So disappointed.
With every pair of Salomons though, I always have the toe crease split and ruin the waterproofing, and this pair also had the tread wear down so quickly, I now also have a hole in the bottom of the shoe, also ruining the waterproofing.
I?m super sad that this pair didn?t even last a year when other pairs have lasted much longer - I am hard on my gear as I hike 25-50km per week - and for the higher price tag I had higher hopes as well.
Great reviews on several sites! Ready to see how they do!
