Poor leg design
High quality craftsmanship, however, the leg openings are poor-less than desirable. The legs are smaller than should be for a size large. With no "grippers" the legs roll up and become even tighter, making for a very uncomfortable ride.

Dissappointed that the pad was changed!
I really liked the old pad on the Symphony shorts, and am very disappointed that PI changed the pad! I would have returned the shorts, but I didn't notice until I had pulled the tags off and washed the new shorts prior to wearing them. PI should have specified "New Pad Design" in the ad copy.
I find I'm needing more chamois cream on shorter rides than I did with the pad on the Symphony shorts I bought 18 months ago. They are still wearable, just -- not as comfortable.
Also, the thigh band is a bit loose. I have a big belly, so buy xxl, but I'm a cyclist, and my legs and butt are small compared to my belly. That is, I have a plus-sized athletic body type, hardly unique among purchasers of high quality riding shorts.
I log 3 - 5 thousand miles a year, 80 - 100 miles a week except when I'm touring. I ride a touring bike at an easy pace on roads and good trails, up hills and mountains and occasionally on the flats.

Replacing all my cycling shorts with these
I already loved Pearl Izumi cycling shorts, they solved a lot of problems I was having with pain when I finally upgraded to them from less expensive brands. But I still struggled with chafing, because I'm short and on me the longer shorts tend to have extra fabric that bunches up at my thigh crease.
I can get away with thin padding in tri shorts for rides up to half iron distance, but beyond about 60 miles I really need a full cycling chamois. This was a major concern this season since most of my rides are quite long.
I finally decided to give the sugar shorts a try, and am so happy I did. Not only do they look so much better on my short frame, right away I noticed I'm no longer shifting in my saddle trying to fix bunched fabric. So, I'm no longer distracted by discomfort while riding, and no longer have chafing when I'm done.
After one particularly tough ride last week (on the notoriously difficult IMWI course) I did get some chafing on one leg, which was from my inner thigh rubbing on the saddle in a way I hadn't experienced before, presumably because I wasn't holding my form well on the hills. So, if you have full inner thighs it's worth noting the shorts may not cover them entirely and this can happen, depending on your saddle and situation. But this has not happened on any other hill workouts in these shorts.
I find them so much more comfortable on my frame I've been washing them the same day every time I ride so I can keep wearing them, and my other half dozen pairs of cycling shorts are going unused. I'm absolutely buying more of these.
Regarding fit: as always with this brand and sports gear in general, they run small. I'm a solid, muscular size 8/10 (med) in regular clothes, sometimes large on bottom, and hourglass shaped. I had to get an XL in these shorts, and they're still on the small side for my hips. I had to size up in this brand even when I was a size 4 a couple of years ago, so if you have any curves at all definitely size up, possibly twice.
The only thing I would change is the small pocket on the size, which is perfect for holding a car key and a little cash, is thin mesh and more than once it appeared my key might pierce the fabric. It would be much better for it to be the same sturdy material as the rest of the shorts.
I had been quite concerned about how to handle IM training and the race itself with my existing shorts because of the endless chafing issues. Now I know I'm wearing sugar shorts from now on.

Skirt too long
Very cute style. However: shorts are waaaay tighter than the skirt on me. I'm usually a medium but the medium shorts were too tight, so I got the large. Large shorts fit but are still quite tight, and the skirt is a bit big everywhere; this pairing seems mis-proportioned. The biggest issue is that the skirt is too long in the back and catches on the seat of my mountain bike every time I dismount. Has almost caused a few falls. Very annoying. It's so hard to find mountain bike short + skirt that works well for a post-menopause body (i.e., mid-body proportions have shifted), and I had high hopes for this...but to no avail.

Perfect For Summer Riding
I really like the 5 inch length of the Sugar Shorts because they don't cover up a lot of leg and that makes them very comfortable to wear for the heat and humidity of summer riding. I actually wear them all winter as well under my AmFib tights. I only wish they would come in more colors or patterns.

I wanted to love these
These shorts are not the ones for me, the padding is so thick I feel like I have on a diaper and the seams inside rub and irritate my skin. I'm quit disappointed as they came highly recommended and weren't cheap.

Love these
I have three pairs now. I love these. They do run small though. I'm typically a size 0-2 and new from past purchases to size up. The medium are perfect.

Great Short
These feel a bit shorter than 5" but they stay put and the padding is A+.
I’ve been wearing this brand for over ten years, and I like them.
