Sizing completely changed from prior models
I own six pairs of Ferossi pants and have been wearing them for 4+. This years model is drastically smaller than previous years. When holding them up and comparing them to pants I purchased last year, the same size pants are almost 3" smaller in the waste.

Updates are great, but change in sizing change very puzzling
These are the best outdoor pants and shorts. The newest generation has some great features - zip rear pocket, new drawstring, etc. But why totally change the sizing? It's 1.5 to 2x sizes smaller in the waist and now cut tight in the seat. Very puzzling to not keep basic sizing constant.

NOT improved!!!
Sad to have to write this review. I've been an Outdoor Research loyalist for years, especially the Ferrosi pants. As an active 50-something, I have four pairs of them. The originals were perfect. The next "improved" version got slimmer and tighter but still fit great and I wear them constantly. Now you have "improved" them again and they fit like a teenager skinny pant. How can the same size of the same product fit so ridiculously different. Either go back to a fit that most of us can wear or I'll take my loyal business somewhere else. Good fitting pants are hard enough to find. When you nail something, stop trying to "improve" it!!!

Different sizing and fit.
Been a fan of the last Gen of Ferosi pants, so I purchased these. I wore a 30/30 in the previous Gen so inevitably I ordered the same. I had to return them and step up to a 32/30 to make them fit around my waist. Even then, the pant legs were much more baggy and too long. I'm returning these too, unfortunately.

Major bummer - new and not improved.
I own 5 pairs of these paints. Both of the two
New models fit too tightly in the same size ordered the previous years model.

Last years front left and right pocket were cut so you could easily place your hand or any item into the pockets.

The new model pockets top load and are tight and difficult to place your hands in. Perhaps this is supposed to be a feature but for me I greatly dislike it.

The leg cuff adjustment piece is unintuitive, cheap, and a disappointment.

Overall I'm disappointed that my favorite pants are no longer comfortable. I may try to exchange one of the two new pairs for a size up but I'm not sure I will bother. These pants used to be outrageously comfortable. The same pants in the same size in the new version are not at all.

Extremely baggy, longer than advertised inseam.
While these pants are light and breathable, they are ridiculously baggy. Looks nothing like the product photos unless the model has calves like tree trunks, and they're not visibly cinched. They're also longer than the advertised 30" inseam, causing them to bunch up significantly. I was hoping these would be a pair I could wear to the office and on the trails like my Zions, but they look like sweatpants, so I'll likely be returning them. For reference, I'm 5'10" and 150 lbs and ordered the 30x30 in Pewter.

Extremely comfortable. Durability TBD
Very comfortable. Very thin fabric, and an elastic element. No resistance to body movement - thus good for rock scramble. the overall design is indeed well-researched, as the OR brand name warrants.

The question arises of durability. In fact, despite giving a rating of overall excellence, outdoorgearlab notes: "we have some questions about long-term durability"

OR previously offered but discontinued the "Sentinel" pant - a backpacking pant with thicker material but still quick dry. A totally different approach in fact. Less nimble, but still loose and flowing and surely much more resistant to abrasion, regardless of claims of "ripstop nylon fabric."

In recent years there's an overall trend toward comfort with reduced valorization of durability. The relative durability of a pant (or a shoe) is only gauged with time, and initial consumer ratings may be largely blind to this issue. If you backpack, however, it's paramount. If you rip pants sliding on a rock, they are ruined.
Hopefully consumers will be mindful of durability and able to comment on it in reviews after some trail time.

Note: by its use of (rock) images on the product page, OR suggests this pant is for the trail; however it does not even include the category "Durability" in its own scaled descriptors (whereas it does for Cirque III, for e.g.). So there's really a lot of ambiguity. In short: this pant may be exceptional where flexibility and lightness are needed, but not durable.

Good Pants, Bad Tension System
I own a pair of the old Ferrosi pants, and I love them. The new ones feel essentially the same, and fit very similarly. Perhaps the slightest bit tighter than the old model, in the same size.

My only issue with this new design is the leg opening tightening system. It's a standard elastic cord with a plastic retainer, like any other piece of clothing with a similar system. The major design flaw however is that the plastic clip is 'W' shaped, meaning that the cord is NOT fully encased in the clip and instead rests via pressure fit in the valleys of the 'W' shape.

Since the plastic clip is tiny (as in a few millimetres long), and not actually attached to the pants in any way, it gets lost easily. The cords do not stay in the clip well at all, and they've come off more times than I can count after a week of wearing. After the first wash, both clips disappeared into the washing machine forever.

It would have taken very little effort to attach the clip to the pants in order to prevent loss, or change the design to ensure the clip cannot physically come off. If you're buying these because you specifically want the ability to tighten the leg openings, prepare to endlessly hunt for the little clips.

Best Ferrosi yet but
Best Ferrosi yet in terms of design, the thigh pocket is finally the right depth and doesn't have the raised fabric of the previous version and the ankle cinches are much improved. These are my do everything pants in warmer weather, nothing beats them for the mix of breathability and durability. The only problem is the sizing is off, it's one maybe two sizes smaller in the waist than previous versions.

Has issues
I got these back in May of 2022, so i don't think these are the "new and improved" current (August 2023) version. Also, it's impossible to know what iteration the other reviews apply to. Confusing.

First the good: I'm 6 ft. 0.5 inch, about 190 pounds. My waist actually measures to close to 40 inches (mid-aged tire/spread), yet most 36-inch waist pants fit fine, especially if they has a bit of elastic built into the waist band. These Ferosi pants didn't, and they're a bit snug, but entirely usable. Go figure. I'd call the overall fit "regular," not skinny-teenager and not baggy. I take a 31-inch inseam length. These are 32, so i cuff them up, and may have them taken up. There's no ankle elastic or adjustment on this version, which is fine by me.

The material is thin, but doesn't seem fragile. I'd consider it to be a summer/warm-weather weight material. No snags, pulls, or runs, but the pants have only seen casual use. They have a good amount of stretch, so they move well.

I wore them only a few times before noticing the stitching coming out along the rear butt seam. I contacted customer service to see if OR had a repair service. They don't. In lieu of returning they, they wanted me to essentially draw a large "X" somewhere on the pants with an indelible marker, take a picture to confirm this, and send it to them, after which they'd issue a refund. This from a company that pretends to care about "sustainability" and stuff.

What i did instead what cut some thin strips out of black tape to make an "X." I played their ridiculous game, got the credit, and tried another pair of pants (Cirque Work Pants), but they had stitching issues even before being worn, so they went back, too, and i used the credit for something else.

I got the Ferosi pants reinforced by a local shop. They were fine for a while, but the stitching is coming out along various seams, mostly in the crotch gusset area. Will get these fixed, too. Can't really recommend these unless QC has improved.
