A friend of mine has been wearing a Northface Softshell for years. After inspecting his jacket, I decided to own one myself. I ran across Columbia's softshell and decided to purchase theirs due to be being on sale. Columbia has always been a brand of quality. I knew that I would receive a product made just as well as my friend's jacket.

I have a 40 chest and found the large to fit my shoulder width perfect. I did notice that the jacket fits a little "relaxed" in the arms and torso (but body types vary: I have an athletic build). After a side by side inspection with the Northface jacket, I noticed that their jacket fits a little small to size. In my opinion the Columbia jacket it better. It allows me to freely move while hiking, hunting, and camp tasks without feeling restricted or "bunching up". The quality of materials and stitching are superb and of the same quality (or better) than Northface.

For the sale price, this jacket was a steal! I am very happy with my purchase! I wouldn't hesitate to make this purchase again. My friend now covets my jacket.

Have had one of these for several years but it started to fade so I bought another. The new one is different in two aspects; 1. No inside pockets, 2. The zipper has a different wind flap design at the top that will take some getting used to so it won't jam. I gave the first jacket a 5 but these two changes were not improvements so I gave this one a 4. Still an excellent all-around jacket!

I haven't had the best of luck with Softshells in the past, this item has however exceeded my expectations. I've never had a situation where this jacket has let me down, and I recommend it every chance I get. Columbia, you got it right this time.

I had a comparable jacket of Columbia for years and it was my favorite. Somehow I lost it last year so I replaced it this year with what looked to be the same. 90% of the jacket is the same but now the arms are fleece lined and I HATE that feature. It grabs on any long sleeve shirt you are wearing when you put the coat on and the static when you take it off could power a small village. Bums me out every day as it is still the coat I'm going to wear 80% of the time but the sleeves drive me nuts. Don't really like the adjustable closures at the sleeve ends either but I'll just have to toughen up I guess.

The jacket's quality and fit are excellent. Wore the jacket during the recent blizzard that hit the northeastern part of the country; the water repellent features far exceeded my expectations and kept me dry during extended snow shoveling/blowing activities. I was, however, a little disappointed in its ability to be as wind proof as it was water proof, particularly in the arm areas. Overal a very nice jacket.

This is a very well made, wind and rain resistant jacket. Fit is excellent and sizing is spot on. LOVE the Omni-Shield outer fabric. My only problem is the fact that the fleece lining all the way through the jacket is even in the sleeves; no taffeta or anything to help your long sleeved shirts slide in and out easily. I find myself wrestling around when I put the jacket on to un-bunch my shirts sleeves from under the jacket. Otherwise, this is an excellent jacket.

I had a similar coat for many years that finally wore out. This is the perfect coat for the first day you know its really fall. Its good at blocking the wind and the fleece lining keeps you warm. The velcro on the sleeves lets you adjust the length if they are a little too long. It will resist some drizzle, but not a full blown rain shower. With a heavy shirt or light sweater underneath, you can be comfortable into the upper 40's.

Love Columbia jackets, always great quality, cool looking, real man's jacket. Not that over priced sissy jackets from the north face, that just are mall jackets that people wear that you would never even see outdoors. My new Columbia jacket is perfect for daily winter wear, this one has no insulation to speak of, but I love it, because I'm hot natured and so it's perfect to block cold wind and rain, but not cook me on mild winter days.

This jacket is stylish and definitely water resistant. The jacket can handle temps down to 40F but anything lower than that you will need some heavy base layers or a thicker jacket.
